Staying on the Sunnyside of Life! : We hadn't been to this dive site in AGES - so off we went for a beautifully sunny Saturday of diving fun with all our friends. We found the pipeline on the first dive, but totally missed it on the 2nd dive and wound up way off in the boonies. LOTS of sand, sand and more sand. Still managed to find some interesting critters. Including a Northern Kelp Crab eating an Opalescent Squid!

Arrrrr! : Avast ye landlubbers! An adventure on the high seas -ok, so it was just the Columbia River, but one can dream, right? We boarded the Hawaiian Chieftain for a "three hour tour" - minus Gilligan. Many of us volunteered to 'help' the crew (although I'm not sure exactly how much we helped and how much we got in the way!) and I'd highly recommend this experience if you go on the cruise. We sailed alongside the Lady Washington, and headed down the Columbia River - shooting cannons (and water balloons) at each other as well as hoisting, trimming and hauling down the sails. LOTS of fun, beautiful weather, couldn't ask for more!

Sund Rock - Low Dissolved Oxygen : September 2006 - Hood Canal is having its annual low oxygen event, but it appears to be even worse than previous years. Many critters were stressed, many were already dead. The invasive tunicate, Ciona savignyi, has taken a firm foothold in this location now. We did two dives at Sund Rock, and here is what we found. All photos by Janna Nichols, please contact me at pnwfishlady@comcast.net if you'd like permission to use.
